Large Burr-Elm Coffee Table in the Wabi-Sabi Style - SOLD

Influenced by the work of George Nakashima this amazing coffee table made from a single piece of burr elm and supported by a glass panel.

Burr Elm of this size is very rare, I bought several boards and this is one of only two remaining. The grain is truly spectacular and we have made it in the Wabi-Sabi Style showing all the irregularities and wildness of this amazing timber.

George Nakashima (1905-1990) was a master of Wabi-Sabi furniture the core belief of which finds beauty in imperfection. He made furniture which toyed with the imperfect working around knot holes, splits and fissures rather than discarding as so many workshops do today.

Western design forces on us straight lines and perfection almost disregarding the natural beauty of the material.
